Think of where you are most affirmed

from selfsea, powered by Peer Health Exchange

Coming out may not be easy for LGBTQ+ people – and some people decide not to come out at all to keep themselves safe. Some folks, like Max (he/him), wait until they have built up enough coping skills and found a sense of safety before coming out.

These decisions can weigh heavily on our emotions, and to deal with those potential emotional ups and downs we need to engage in strategies that enhance our resilience.

All LGBTQ+ people can benefit from identifying the places and people in their lives where they feel most affirmed, regardless of whether or not, or how much you are “out.” This exercise will help you reflect on those affirming people or places.

After the exercise, keep scrolling to hear how Max (he/him) found the support he needed after coming out.
